Executive Director; Senior Adviser to the Executive Chair, APCO

Judit Arenas is an Executive Director and Senior Adviser to APCO's founder and Executive Chair. A seasoned public affairs and globally-minded strategy adviser with over 20 years of experience, who has developed positioning strategies for governments at the international, national and local level and has developed strategies for companies and private sector leaders to improve their global positioning and help them enter new markets.

A recognized leader on gender and sustainability issues, Ms. Arenas co-leads APCO’s Center for Gender Equality that harnesses efforts to promote women’s equality, including amongst the G20. Her sustainability expertise comes from understanding the deeply interconnected nature of environmental and development goals. She has implemented programs and counseled executives on diverse issues, spanning water, food security, climate, climate justice, and energy transition.

Prior to joining APCO, Judit led external relations external relations for the International Development Law Organization (IDLO). In this role, she positioned IDLO as the sole intergovernmental organization dedicated to advancing the rule of law. Simultaneously serving as Deputy Permanent Observer to the United Nations in New York, Judit played a pivotal role in shaping the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development as IDLO’s chief negotiator for the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Currently serving as an external senior adviser to the UN Special Rapporteur on freedom of expression, she focuses on tackling disinformation, tech integrity, and press freedom.

A member of the World Economic Forum’s Global Future Council and the Community of Chief Legal Officers, Judit is also on the board of the Learning Economy. Previously she served on the UN Global Compact’s B4ROL Steering Committee and the board of SciDev. Recognized as a governance and rule of law expert, she bridges the gaps between governments, civil society, and the private sector, and continues to shape best practices in good governance, rule of law, and development worldwide. She is a frequent media commentator on the BBC, CNN, Sky, Al-Jazeera and Al-Arabia. She undertook science postgraduate studies in University College London, UK.
