During the World Economic Forum’s Annual Meeting of the New Champions 2015, web experts said that the internet will soon represent a $4 trillion economy. Jack Ma, Executive Chairman of the e-commerce giant Alibaba, said: “Very soon, the world will have more than 3 billion people born after the advent of the internet. The internet will change the world in the next 85 years.”
In fact, the web has already changed the way we carry out our purchases, with online shopping now common practice around the world. In Japan, Germany and the United Kingdom alone, more than 70% of the adult population spend part of their income on e-commerce.
Recently, emerging markets such as China and Brazil are also adopting online shopping at a fast rate.
According to Statista’s Digital Market Outlook, the United States is leading when it comes to total e-commerce revenue, and it’s also among the countries with the highest revenue per online shopper.
Americans are expected to spend $1,804 online this year on average, close to double the amount spent online by Japanese shoppers.
