7 reasons CEOs take action on climate change
Protecting future generations is the overriding factor motivating CEOs to take action on climate change, according to PwC’s CEO Pulse.
The report asks 142 CEOs from around the world about topical business issues, including climate change. CEOs were asked what personally motivates them to drive business action on climate change. The following chart shows the top seven responses.
Over four fifths of CEOs cite a desire to protect future generations as their motivation for taking action on climate change. The second biggest motivating factor is a reputational advantage for their firm. The top three is completed by creating value for shareholders, with just over half of CEOs citing this as a motivation.
Other factors on the list include “building trust”, just below “shareholder value” with 52%, and “consumer demand”, “resilience” and “talent”. Only 5% of CEOs said no action was being taken.
