Internet freedom is highest in Iceland, according to a report from Freedom House, the independent watchdog working to spread freedom and democracy across the world.

The ‘Freedom on the Net’ report assesses 65 countries on their levels of internet and digital media freedom, based on a methodology developed with international experts. It is divided into three categories scored between 0-100 – obstacles to access, limits on content and violations of user rights. The lower the score, the higher the internet freedom, which makes 0 the best and 100 the worst, and a combined score of less than 30 indicates freedom.

Following Iceland in second place is Estonia, just one point worse, with a score of 7. Canada completes the top three with a score of 16.

Several European nations feature in the top 10, including Germany in 4th, Italy in 8th and France, Georgia, Hungary and the UK in joint 9th. The list is completed by some major world economies – Australia, the USA and Japan.
