5 lessons for community-focused planning during a pandemic
The disruption of the COVID-19 pandemic has prompted a rethink on the methods and tools to best engage local communities in the planning process.
Abel is an international expert in urban development, working to support positive outcomes in the built environment. Educated at the University of Oxford and a recipient of the 10th Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) Norman Foster Travelling Award, he is recognised as a Norman Foster Foundation Scholar, World Economic Forum Global Shaper and Advisor to the Aga Khan Agency for Habitat.
With a strong interest in city futures he has worked on large scale infrastructure, city planning, and sustainable urban development projects in the international studios of Kengo Kuma & Associates (Tokyo), Foster + Partners (London), and the Norman Foster Foundation (Madrid), collaborated on human centred codesign research with the Australian Urban Design Research Centre (Perth) and taught at the University of Western Australia’s School of Design.
