Jörgen Sandström is the Head of the Transforming Industrial Ecosystem Program, at the World Economic Forum.
Jörgen lead several teams who work in the forefront of industry transformation, energy transition, sustainability and decarbonisation.
These CEO-led initiatives / projects intend to deliver net-zero materials ecosystems; unlock the technologies, finance and policies that will enable them; and design new sustainable business models towards their future performance.
Current initiatives under the program are:
• Net Zero Industry Clusters initiative: accelerate the transition of clusters through a structured approach to financing, policy, technology and partnerships.
• Accelerating Clean Hydrogen initiative: new collaborative efforts to scale clean hydrogen; focus on generating demand and facilitating access to finance for clean hydrogen projects.
• Low-Carbon Emitting Technologies initiative: accelerate scaling of technology for chemicals production.
• Clean Power and Electrification for Industry: scale-up clean power infrastructure for industrial transformation.
• First Movers Coalition (downstream): establishing demand commitments, drive procurement innovation and scaling-up breakthrough technologies (Steel, Aluminium, Chemicals and Concrete sectors).
Jörgen is the former Head of Mining and Metals Industry at the World Economic Forum. The World Economic Forum’s Mining & Metals Industry community consists of the world’s leading mining and metals companies, representing a broad range of commodities and all regions. He has twenty years of experience working with energy and commodities as well as in diplomacy.
From 2008 to 2016 he was Executive Officer of Addax Bioenergy SA leading a large bioenergy venture in Sierra Leone, West Africa.
He started his career with the Swedish Ministry for Foreign Affairs with postings in Russia, Switzerland, Kosovo, Afghanistan and Estonia.

Green hydrogen can help India’s energy security needs while tackling emissions. A new report highlights how to accelerate green hydrogen adoption in India.
The World Economic Forum Clean Hydrogen Project Accelerator has found that there are three key ways that clean hydrogen projects can be bought to fruition.
Cement releases a vast amount of emissions. Circularity could help solve this problem by keeping emissions to a minimum while enabling the construction of homes and infrastructure.
A new report profiles six countries taking action to reduce the enormous environmental impact of public procurement of low carbon concrete – but it requires us to go much further
Using decarbonization technology in the aluminium sector could reduce carbon emissions from aluminium processing in China by 65% over the next 40 years.
A decarbonized energy system requires both electrification and low carbon fuels. Accelerated action can boost public and private efforts and investment in clean hydrogen.
How China can boost its carbon neutrality efforts by ensuring renewables account for more than 50% of the power supply for aluminium production by 2045.
As demand grows for aluminium to further the global energy transition, we must gather, sort and recycle it more efficiently to reduce the industry's emissions toll
The traditional methods of finding and retaining talent in mining and metals companies need updating to reflect employees with new skillsets and values.
New report from ICMM highlights the critical role the mining industry can play in supporting mining communities to develop the skills needed for new roles.
