Kerrie Symmonds

Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade of Barbados

The Honourable Kerrie Drurard Symmonds, M.P., is an Attorney-at-Law and has been called to practice at the Bar of Barbados and the Bar of the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States.

In addition to being a General Litigation Practitioner, Minister Symmonds is also an International Trade Law Practitioner, and maintained an extensive practice offering consultancy services in this field to a number of member states across the Caribbean region.

Minister Symmonds has also been retained as Legal Expert/Team Leader for a series of CARICOM coordinated and internationally funded trade and competitiveness assessments which were designed to identify and advise upon the most effective manner of removing restrictions to, and impacting upon, the movement of services, goods, capital, skills and rights of establishment in the implementation of the Caribbean Single Market and Economy.

In similar vein, Minister Symmonds provided consultancy services to assist in the technical implementation phase of the Economic Partnership Agreement between the European Union and the CARIFORUM member states.

Minister Symmonds has now been a member of the legislature of Barbados for twenty-one (21) years having served in both legislative houses. During that time, between the years 2003 and 2008, Minister Symmonds served in the Cabinet of Barbados as Barbados’ Minister of State in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade and as a Member of Parliament. Between 2013 and 2015 he served as Leader of Opposition Business in the Parliament of Barbados.

Since May 2018, Minister Symmonds has served as Minister of Tourism and International Transport; Minister of Energy, Small Business and Entrepreneurship; Minister of Energy and Business Development; and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade of Barbados. He is also the Senior Minister coordinating Productive Sector.
