Before that, Luiz was a drilling engineer for Schlumberger, where he was in charge of well design, execution, and evaluation of wells, as well as contributing to strategic decision-making at clients headquarters.

Luiz holds a Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree from INSEAD, as well as a mechanical and aerospace engineering degree from UFMG-Brazil. His thesis was in wind turbine design.
