Climate Breakthroughs 2021 - Getting to Zero for Shipping - English
Our common ambition should be to decarbonize shipping completely by 2050. The International Maritime Organization’s ambition to reduce shipping GHG emissions by at least 50% by 2050 was an important first step in 2018. Given technological developments and the latest climate science, it is now time to fully align shipping and the maritime supply chain with the Paris Agreement with the critical near-term goals of 5% of zero-emission international shipping fuels, and 15% of zero-emission domestic shipping fuels by 2030. This will require strong leadership from companies and stakeholders in the full maritime ecosystem, supported by national and international policy measures by 2025 to make ordering zero emission vessels the default choice by 2030. This session will be run by the Getting to Zero Coalition.
