Beyond Ocean

The importance of ocean health reaches far beyond the blue on our planet home. A thriving ocean can help meet the nutritional demands of local communities; it means more, safer, and better jobs and livelihoods for coastal communities and workers in other ocean sectors; it also means improved health and wellbeing. The ocean also plays a critical role in combatting climate change – by acting as a carbon sink, regulating temperatures, and providing critical coastal resilience. Through improving ocean health and achieving the targets in the UN’s Sustainable Development Goal for the ocean, SDG 14, major contributions will also be made to a number of other SDGs. How can we ensure that ocean health is recognized and prioritized across the global sustainable development agenda?

In this context, it's crucial for businesses, governments, and civil society to work together to find common solutions and take decisive action. Through its Centres, the World Economic Forum integrates public-private efforts to achieve greater impact.
