Alexander Cheng

Curator, Sydney Hub

Alex is a community builder, advocate, and management consultant at L.E.K. Consulting, a global strategy consulting firm.

He is recognised nationally for his work in social inclusion. He founded Australia's first not-for-profit supporting emerging leaders of colour aspire to senior leadership, led Australia's largest LGBTQ+ professional mentoring program, and co-founded South West Sydney's first queer safe space. For these contributions, he was awarded the Winner of the Professional Services Category in the Asian-Australian Leadership Awards (formerly 40 Under 40 Most Influential Asian-Australians), and recognised as a 30 Under 30 Outstanding LGBTQIA+ Leader by BCG and Out for Australia.

At L.E.K. he has advised over 25 healthcare, education, transport, and private equity clients on key issues of strategy, transactions, and organisational performance, with highlights including advising global biopharmaceuticals on the launch of their second mRNA vaccine and developing the inaugural commercial partnerships strategy for Australia's oldest university. He also founded our first APAC Employee Resource Groups for LGBTQ+ and culturally diverse employees which now collectively account for 20% of our employees in the region.

He is also passionate about connecting local communities with global social and economic opportunities and currently serves on the Youth Advisory Boards of both the Western Sydney Leadership Dialogue and the U.S. Consulate General in Sydney.

He is increasingly drawn to the role of media in shaping narratives that influence global development, and is exploring how storytelling can be a powerful tool to address complex social challenges and amplify diverse voices.
