Alice Hunt Friend is global Head of AI & Emerging Tech Policy at Google. Friend is an expert in defense politics and emerging capabilities, and has served in several roles at the U.S. Department of Defense. Most recently, she was the deputy chief of staff to the deputy secretary of defense. She has a PhD in International Relations, and was previously the vice president for research and analysis at the Institute for Security and Technology and a senior fellow at the Center for Strategic and International Studies. She has published articles in the Washington Post, Foreign Affairs, Foreign Policy, War on the Rocks, Lawfare, and Just Security.
