Aloke Barnwal

Coordinator, Sustainable Cities Program; Senior Climate Change Specialist, Global Environment Facility

Aloke is the coordinator of GEF’s Sustainable Cities Program. He leads the development of the sustainable cities programming strategy, manages a portfolio of 50+ cities and collaborates with diverse urban actors including cities, networks, specialized agencies, private sector and financial institutions to advance integrated approaches for urban sustainability. Aloke also manages climate change adaptation projects at the GEF, with a specific focus on the least developed and highly vulnerable countries. In his 20 years of experience, Aloke has extensively worked on a wide range of climate, nature and development projects at local, national and regional levels. Aloke holds a Master of Public Affairs degree from Indiana University, Bloomington, United States with specialization in Environment Policy and Natural Resource Management.
