BSc and MSc in Physics, University of Puerto Rico; 1987, PhD in Theoretical Physics, Cornell University. Theoretical and computational biophysicist interested in protein folding and protein dynamics. 1989-2005, with Theoretical Biology and Biophysics Group, Los Alamos including 2001-05, Group Leader. With RPI: 2005, Chaired Constellation Professor in Biocomputation and Bioinformatics; research group aims at understanding basic steps in biological processes from physical principles; recent work includes development of models that explain role of high hydrostatic pressure in unfolding of proteins, role of denaturants on protein stability and development of an atomic model describing antimocrobial peptides.
