Asif Ali Zardari

1990-93 and 1993-96, served as Member of the National Assembly; 1993-96, Federal Minister, Environment; 1995-96, Federal Minister, Investment; 1997-99, Senator. January 2008, elected Co-Chairman, Pakistan Peoples Party following the assassination of his wife, Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto. Political career: abdicated Presidential powers to strengthen Parliamentary democracy; helped to formulate policies that expanded freedom of media, revolutionized telecommunications, reformed Pakistan's energy sector, opened Pakistan to foreign direct investment and made workers shareholders in state-run enterprises. 6 September 2008, elected President of Pakistan.
