Austin Strange is an assistant professor of international relations in the Department of Politics and Public Administration at the University of Hong Kong beginning August 2020. He is also a fellow in the Columbia-Harvard China and the World Program.
Austin researches and teaches Chinese foreign policy, international political economy, and international development. Currently he is preparing a book manuscript on the domestic politics of trade and diplomacy in Chinese history. With excellent colleagues, he also tracks contemporary China's economic activities abroad. Among other projects, he is writing a book for Cambridge University Press on China’s overseas development program.
He received a Ph.D. in Government from Harvard University and previously studied at Zhejiang University (M.A.) and the College of William & Mary (B.A.).
