Degree (Hons) in Economics, Christ’s College, Cambridge University, United Kingdom; 2005, completed Sloan Fellows Programme, Massachusetts Institute of Technology. 1987-2011, military career with the Singapore Armed Forces; various appointments, including 2007-09, Chief Infantry Officer; 2009-10, Chief of Staff of the Joint Staff; 2010-11, Chief of Army. 2011, elected Member of Parliament for Tanjong Pagar Group Representation Constituency (GRC). 2011-12, Acting Minister for Community Development, Youth and Sports and Minister of State for Information, Communications and the Arts. 2013-15, Minister for Social and Family Development and Second Minister for Defence; responsible for improving social service delivery, enhancing social safety nets and strengthening support for families in Singapore. Since 2015, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Office; concurrently, Secretary-General, National Trades Union Congress (NTUC). Deputy Chairman, People’s Association. Co-Chair, Joint Working Committee and Joint Implementation Committee, China-Singapore (Chongqing) Demonstration Initiative on Strategic Connectivity.
