Deepak Kapoor

Chairman, PwC

Deepak Kapoor began his term as the Chairman
of PwC India on 1 January 2011. He has been
with the Indian firm for more than 35 years,
having joined in 1978 as an articled trainee.
Deepak became a partner with the firm in 1991
and was the Managing Director from 2007 till he
was elected as the Chairman in 2011.
A member of PwC’s India Leadership Team and
PwC’s global 21 member team, Deepak has
served in a variety of leadership and client
service roles, initially as an auditor and then as
an M&A professional. He has led the firm’s
Deals practice for more than eight years and the
Telecom and Entertainment & Media practice for
over 10 years.
Deepak also has extensive experience in Business
Advisory related work, having worked for a range
of top-tier financial and strategic buyers. His
experience in India and overseas encompasses
multiple industries including consumer products,
manufacturing, telecom, technology, healthcare
and entertainment and media. He has also worked
in the Stockholm office for two years as part of
the Management International Exchange
programme.
At PwC, Deepak has been instrumental in
enabling women colleagues succeed and prepare
for leadership roles, which is reflected in the
steady rise in the number of women
Partners/Executive Directors and the fact that
50% of new hires are women. As an extension of
this, he also mentored women leaders from large
organisations in the country as part of Reach Out,
a 10-month long unique diversity initiative by
American Express.
Deepak has held positions on sectoral committees
and represented PwC on various fora like CII,
FICCI, ASSOCHAM, etc. Deepak is also a
regular contributor to business and trade
publications and a frequently requested speaker at
universities, industry forums and professional
conferences.
A meritorious Commerce Graduate from Delhi
University (third rank holder), Deepak is a fellow
member of Institute of Charter ed Accountants of India (ICAI), fellow member of Institute of
Company Secretaries of India and a member of
the Institute of Certified Fraud Examiners, USA.
Social service is close to his heart with the cause
of education being at the forefront of it. It is this
commitment of his that led him to pioneer PwC’s
CSR initiative in India and set up the PwC
Foundation which he currently chairs. An active
Rotarian for over 20 years, he has also been the
Community Director in a Rotary Club for many
years and spends most of his free time organising
blood donation drives, steering sustainability
activities for educational institutes for the
marginalised and running marathons for a cause.
He is also a member director on the Board of
Directors of Common Purpose and SIFE India.
Deepak enjoys travelling, spending time with his
family, he is a fitness enthusiast and an admirer
of Urdu poetry. Cross country driving in Europe
is his idea of a perfect holiday!.
