Hahrie Han

Stavros Niarchos Foundation Professor of Political Science; Director, SNF Agora Institute, Johns Hopkins University

Hahrie Han is the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Professor of Political Science, the Inaugural Director of the SNF Agora Institute, and the Faculty Director of the P3 Research Lab at Johns Hopkins University. She has published four books and numerous award-winning articles that focus on the science of social change, with a particular focus on the ways that people can act together to realize their vision of a just, democratic world. In particular, she studies organizing, movements, civic engagement, and democracy. In all of her work, Hahrie has been involved in numerous efforts to make academic research relevant to the world of practice, and frequently partners with a wide range of civic and political organizations and movements around the world to strengthen their practice. She has worked with organizations in the United States, Europe, Australia, New Zealand, Korea, and elsewhere. Her work has been published in the American Political Science Review, American Sociological Review, American Journal of Sociology, Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA), and numerous other outlets, including the New York Times, Washington Post, and elsewhere. She is the daughter of Korean immigrants, grew up in Houston, Texas, and currently lives in Baltimore, Maryland in the United States.
