Hamilton Mourão

Vice-President of Brazil
Born August 15, 1953, in Porto Alegre, son of General ANTÔNIO HAMILTON MOURÃO and Ms. WANDA CORONEL MARTINS MOURÃO.
VP Mourão joined the Brazilian Army in February 26th, 1972, at the “Agulhas Negras” military Academy, in the city of Resende, and graduated on December 12th, 1975.
He graduated in the following specialization courses: Advanced Military Studies at the Staff and Command Army School; Army Strategy, Politics and Advanced Administration; Master Parachuter; and Jungle Warfare.
During his military career, General Mourão was Instructor at the “Agulhas Negras” military Academy, participated in the UN Peacekeeping Mission in Angola (UNAVEM III), commanded the 27th Field Artillery Battalion in Ijuí and acted as Military Attaché at the Brazilian Embassy in Caracas, Venezuela (2002-4).
As an Army General, he commanded the 2nd Jungle Infantry Brigade in São Gabriel da Cachoeira, Amazonas, and the 6th Army Division in Porto Alegre, Rio Grande do Sul. General Mourão also headed the Southern Military Command and was the Army Secretary of Economic and Financial Affairs.
Finally, he presided the Military Association in the city of Rio de Janeiro.
General Hamilton Mourão was elected Vice-President of Brazil in October 2018, and took office on January 1st, 2019.
