The computational power of quantum computers is exponentially proportional to the number of quantum bits, endorsed by the coherent superposition of quantum states. We cannot imagine future quantum computers composed of hundreds of optical tables with millions of bulk optical device, and hundreds of scientists working on the maintenance. Xianmin Jin is thus developing quantum integrated photonics, an elegant way to find a solution to the limitation of computational power of human beings. He is also leading a project on developing on-chip quantum terminal, which would facilitate quantum communication ensuring the unconditional security of private communication for the first time.
