John Morrison

Chief Executive Officer, Institute for Human Rights and Business (IHRB)

John Morrison is the Chief Executive of the Institute for Human Rights and Business (IHRB). IHRB was established in 2009 as an international impartial centre of expertise working with governments, business, and civil society in all global regions, holding ECOSOC consultative status at the United Nations, and is an observer in the UNFCCC process. IHRB is represented on the board of a number of mineral-focused initiatives and has facilitated the Government of Switzerland's multi-stakeholder process on human rights in relation to commodity trading. IHRB has worked in Qatar since 2015 and now hopes to work elsewhere in the GCC through the Gulf Sustain initiative. In his personal capacity, John has several advisory roles within the UK Government and is a board committee member for the John Lewis Partnership, and a sustainability panel member at Tetra Pak. John is a commissioner for the Mining 2030 investor initiative, and works closely with the World Economic Forum and other networks. His books include 'The Just Transition: a systems-thinking approach to climate action' (2024) and the 'The Social License: how to keep your organisation legitimate' (2014). He lives in the south of England.
