Juan Carlos Varela Rodríguez

Degree in Industrial Engineering, Georgia Tech, United States. Formerly: led the growth of Varela Hermanos, a Panamanian company with more than 100 years of history, which generated thousands of jobs in Panama, including 1985, Director; 2008, Executive Vice-President. Has supported the promotion of projects in favour of culture, sports, education, folklore and the environment. July 2009, elected Vice-President of the Republic of Panama. March 2013, Presidential Candidate, Panameñista Party; August 2013, proclaimed the Candidate for the Alianza El Pueblo Primero (The People First Alliance), made up of the Panameñista and Popular Party, and the support of independent sectors of the country. May 2014, elected President of the Republic of Panama for the 2014 - 2019 Constitutional period.
