Justin Langan

From the rural community of Swan River, Manitoba, Justin Langan is a 26-year-old international Métis LGBTQ2+ advocate for Indigenous rights and environmental sustainability, holding a Bachelor of Arts in Political Studies from the University of Manitoba.

Justin graduated from the University of Manitoba in 2024 with a Bachelor of Arts, majoring in Political Studies and minoring in Philosophy. He boasts a wealth of experience in student activism. He was the male co-president of the Métis University Students Association, Commissioner, and National Representative for the Circle of First Nations, Métis, and Inuit Students in the Canadian Federation of Students. Justin also participated in the President's Student Leadership Program, the Peer Mentor Program, the Indigenous Circle of Empowerment, and numerous other initiatives.

In his free time, Justin established the Indigenous Film Archive, a living repository of Indigenous Cinema dating back to the late 19th century, and launched an Indigenous Youth-centric podcast. Additionally, he founded a federal non-profit and set up a knitting business specializing in toques. Justin's dedication extended to his involvement in federal and provincial committees and councils while maintaining an excellent GPA.

Justin has received numerous accolades for his community work, including the Indspire Métis Youth Award, the U of M Sustainability Award, the Emerging Leader Award, the Honour 150 Award, the CBC Future 40 Under 40 Award, the RBC Bright Future Award, the Top 25 Environmentalists Under 25 Recognition, and the Sharon Johnston Champion Mental Award for Youth.

Justin was selected for the prestigious 2024-2025 Parliamentary Internship Program in Ottawa, Ontario; he will work alongside government and opposition MPs, dive deep into Canada’s political process, and contribute to meaningful policy discussions. His plans afterward include attending Law School.
