Practised as criminal lawyer before taking up a career in financial regulation in 1990; first Head, Enforcement Law, Policy and International Co-operation, FSA; 2004, Chief Executive, Financial Services Compensation Scheme, overseeing the payment of over £ 21 billion in compensation to victims of bank and other financial failures. Currently, Director, Christian Aid, responsible for strategic direction, plans and programmes, and overseeing the agency's involvement in the ACT Alliance, BOAG and the DEC. Awarded an OBE.
