Chef. Studied sushi and kaiseki in Hiroshima, Japan. Founder and Head of 8 restaurants, including Morimoto restaurants in Philadelphia, New York, Napa, Honolulu, and Mexico City; a sushi bar in Boca Raton, Florida, and two restaurants, Wasabi by Morimoto, in India. 1979, opened first restaurant; 1984, sold restaurant and travelled to US. 1993, Head, sushi bar and Japanese kitchen, Sony Club; 1994, Executive Chef, Nobu. 2001, opened Morimoto restaurant, Philadelphia; 2004, opened Wasabi by Morimoto, Mumbai; 2005, opened Morimoto-XEX, Tokyo; 2006, opened Morimoto, New York; 2010, opened Morimoto Napa, Waikiki and Mexico City. Competes on Iron Chef, a Japanese television; also appears on Iron Chef America, Food Network. Author of Morimoto: The New Art of Japanese Cooking (2007), which won two IACP awards. Recipient of awards, including: received one star in first edition of Tokyo Michelin Guide (2006); Award for Outstanding Restaurant Design, James Beard Foundation; named one of Food & Wine's Best US Restaurant Openings for Morimoto Napa (2010).
