Pr. Merieme Chadid is an intrepid explorer, renowned astronomer, and pioneering astrophysicist, celebrated for her groundbreaking contributions to science. She holds the distinction of being the first astronomer in the world to lead international scientific polar programs at the South Pole, where she installed a major astronomical observatory in Antarctica. As the first African to reach the South Pole, she proudly placed the Moroccan flag in this remote location.
Pr. Chadid was also among the pioneering astronomers who worked on the Very Large Telescope in Chile's Atacama Desert, the driest desert on Earth. Her remarkable achievements have earned her a place on Forbes Magazine's list of the thirty most fascinating workers in the world.
With a PhD in Astronomy from the University of Toulouse and further executive education from Harvard University, Pr. Chadid conducts influential research on stellar evolution. As a professor, she imparts her knowledge by teaching and supervising PhD students, inspiring the next generation of scientists.
