A youthful legislator serving in Kenya’s Parliamentary House of the Senate which represents the counties, and serves to protect the interests of the counties and their governments. As Senator, I participate in the law-making function of Parliament by considering, debating and approving Bills concerning counties, and determine the allocation of national revenue among counties. Being a Bachelor’s degree holder in Communications, I am also a qualified and dynamic journalist, public relations practitioner and peace promoter with over 7 years of quality work experience acquired in several challenging roles with a leading media house in Kenya and with several humanitarian organizations. I am a founding Member of the Peace Caravan, an initiative to advocate peace throughout my country by lobbying and visiting conflicting communities. In 2013, I founded the Naisula Lesuuda Peace Foundation (NLPF), which aims to promote peaceful coexistence, highlight the importance of educati on and promote women and youth empowerment within the society. Through the Foundation, I run various peace campaigns among warring communities; run a scholarship fund for needy children and provide skills training to women and youth to enable them earn a living. NLPF also engages in advocacy work on harmful cultural practices like FGM, Early Marriages, and the promotion of Maternal Health. In 2010, I was awarded the ‘Order of the Grand Warrior of Kenya’ for my work in peace promotion and journalism and in 2011; I received the International Labor Organization’s (ILO) Wedge Award for Outstanding Professional Women.
