Research focuses on population and family changes in Asia and developed countries. Member, Science Council of Japan, chairing subcommittee on population change and economy. Co-Author: Marriage, Work, and Family Life in Comparative Perspective (2004); Jinko Gensho to Nihon Keizai - Population Decline and the Japanese Economy (2009); Prudence and Pressure - Reproduction and Human Agency in Europe and Asia, 1700-1900 (2010).
