Degree in Industrial Civil Engineering, University of Chile. 1980, head of the centre of students, School of Engineering, University of Chile. 1981, President, Federation of the Centres for Students (FECECH). 1993, Member, Steering Committee that founded the Independent Democratic Union party (UDI); organized population department; Member and Secretary, Political Committee; 1998-2004, President, UDI. 1990-2005, Deputy, Legislature; Member, permanent commissions on Economy and Development, Public Works, Transport and Telecommunications; Head, permanent commission of the Treasury. 2006-14, Senator for East Santiago; has worked with several commissions, including Environment and National Heritage, Labour and Social Welfare, Public Works, Housing and Urbanization. Currently, Minister of Economy, Development and Tourism of Chile.
