Pradeep Kumar Gyawali

Political career started in 1970s through affiliation with Nepali Left Movement and subsequent involvement in student politics in 1973. 1978, joined the Communist Party. 1979-90, underground party work, including as Gulmi District Committee Member. 1989-93, Party as District Secretary at Arghakhanchi district; 1994-95, Zonal Secretary. 1999, elected to the House of Representatives in 1999; 1999-2012, Member of the State Affairs Committee. 2008, elected to the Constituent Assembly; 2008-12, Member, Parliamentary Proceedings Advisory Committee; led different parliamentary investigations on corruption cases; 2006-07, Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation; was a member of the government team that negotiated with the then Maoist rebels. 2017, elected to the House of Representatives. Since March 2018, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Nepal. Secretary of the Central Committee and Central Secretariat of the Party. Author of literary works ranging from poetry, fiction, essays, and critiques on political and philosophical commentaries, including: the novel “Sahayatri” (1990); short stories “Kuhiro” (2003); poetic works “Chita Jalirahechha” (1994), “Aastha o Mery Priya” (2002) and “Bina Salik Ka Nayakharu” (2016); essays and critiques “Prachandpath” (2002), “Phoenix Panchi” (2003), “Yuba” (2005), “Rastriyata”, “Pahichan ra Samajik Rupantaran” [Nationality, Identity and Social Transformation (2013)], and “Samskritik Rupantaran: Ek Vimarsha” [Cultural Transformation: An Analysis(2015)].
