Over 25 years' legislative and economic experience at local, state and federal levels. Formerly: Assistant City Attorney, Dallas; legislative aide to US Senator; Texas Secretary of State; Chair, General Service Commission, Texas; 1995-2001, first African- American Mayor of Dallas; Partner, Vinson & Elkins, practicing in public finance and public policy. Since 2009, current position, Member of President Obama's Cabinet and President's principal trade adviser, negotiator and spokesperson on trade issues. Named: 2008, one of 50 Most Influential Minority Lawyers in America, National Law Journal; 2007-09, one of top government relations lawyers in US, Best Lawyers in America. Recipient of awards including: Distinguished Alumni Award, University of Texas (2001); Outstanding Public Service Award, Woodrow Wilson Center for Public Policy (2000).
