Dr. Samah El-Shahat, is Vice President of China-i Ltd ( www.china-i.org ), a risk management advisory firm specialising in transactional, environmental, social and governance (ESG), reputational and integration risk facing Chinese companies in their overseas investment. Since its foundation in 2008, China-i has become the global leader of its field, working closely with China’s Fortune 500, as well as with Chinese government development and financial bodies.
Samah leads a special division within China-I specialising in social and governance metrics aimed at financial investors with an ESG target, with an emphasis on China-specific ESG metrics. The unit will launch as a separate entity providing services and products to international investors.
Samah’s passion is identifying difficult to measure metrics, particularly those which capture “social” and “governance” issues that impact alpha.
Samah believes that companies will lead us into a sustainable future as long as they are fair to their stakeholders, and the correct metrics can help greatly in this complex endeavour.
Samah holds a PhD in Economics, from SOAS, University of London. As well as an MSc in Development Economics and a BSc in economics from University College, London.
