Commissioner, UNFPA’s ICPD25 High-Level Commission. Member of the High-Level Group on Humanitarian Resilience, the Digital Currency Governance Consortium Steering Committee and formerly the Global Future Council on the New Agenda for Fragility and Resilience of the World Economic Forum. Trustee, Muslim Aid. Chair, British Fencing. Has served on a range of executive and advisory boards, including Oxford University's Refugees Studies Centre, The New Humanitarian, SOS Sahel and the UN Association of the UK. Editor-in-Chief, Disasters journal. Served on the Independent Team of Advisers to the ECOSOC Dialogue on the reform of the UN development system. Previously led a high-profile UN response in Sudan's Nuba Mountains. Former Lecturer, University of Dar es Salaam. Acted as an observer at the IGAD Sudan peace process. PhD in Politics and International Studies. Appointed as CMG for her services to peacebuilding, humanitarian assistance and international development in the 2024 UK New Year Honours.
