Undergraduate and Medical degrees (Hons), Northwestern University; completed internal medicine residency and cardiology training at Columbia-Presbyterian Medical Center. Cardiologist and internist. 1979, joined NewYork-Presbyterian, one of the nation’s largest, most comprehensive healthcare delivery networks; formerly, Executive Vice-President and Chief Operating Officer, overseeing day-to-day operations across five campuses and responsible for advancing a number of strategic initiatives, with We Put Patients First at the core of its mission; 1998-2005, Senior Vice-President and Chief Medical Officer; led the development and implementation of 13 clinical service lines, a critical step for the success of the newly merged hospital; currently, President and Chief Executive Officer. Member of the Board of Directors and President, Greater New York Hospital Association. Member of the Governing Council, Health Care Systems, American Hospital Association. Fellow, New York Academy of Medicine. Member of the Administrative Board, Association of American Medical Colleges Council of Teaching Hospitals. Member, Health Management Academy. Member of the Advisory Board, Morgan Stanley Institute for Sustainable Investing. Recipient of numerous awards and honours, including the Hope and Heroes Award for promoting excellence in paediatric oncology and the VHA Award for Clinical Quality for the design and implementation of an emergency department chest pain diagnosis and treatment protocol.
