Dr. Takashi Ohtani is a Project researcher of the Center for Global Commons at the University of Tokyo. He is also a member of the Circular Economy department , Mitsubishi Chemical Corporation (MCC).
After receiving a doctoral degree at Keio University, he joined MCC. He was responsible for developing several unique synthetic processes of pharmaceuticals and intermediates at API Corporation, a subsidiary of MCC, through combining organic synthesis and microbial biotransformation. After that, he moved to the Yokohama research center of MCC and discovered novel high-sensitivity photoinitiators and specialty monomers for optical use.
From 2019, he moved to Emerging Technology and Business Development Office, a corporate venture capital division at Mitsubishi Chemical Holdings Corporation (MCHC). After a year and a half of experience investigating cutting-edge technology related to plastic recycling, biomass use, and laboratory automation, he joined the Center for Global Commons at the University of Tokyo.
His current interest is developing Global Commons Stewardship through accelerating Systemic Change.
