Wendy is currently the Chairman of Absa Group Limited, Absa Bank Limited and Absa Financial Services Limited; positions which she has held since April 2013. She is also a founding director of Peotona Group Holdings, a women’s investment and development group.
She was previously an Executive Director of Rand Merchant Bank Holdings and thereafter Chief Executive of FirstRand Retail, which included First National Bank, WesBank, Outsurance and Firstlink.
Her former Non-Executive Directorships include those at Barclays PLC and Barclays Bank PLC, Nedbank, Anglo American Platinum, Development Bank of Southern Africa, Dimension Data PLC, Alexander Forbes, Aveng (Deputy Chairman), Lafarge Industries SA (Chairman), Eskom, Momentum Group, Discovery Holdings, Telkom SA and the South African Financial Markets Advisory Board.
Wendy was involved in facilitating strong partnerships between business and government since 1994 and as a result became the founding Chairman of Business Against Crime. She was also a member of the President’s Advisory Council on Black Economic Empowerment from 2011 to 2014.
She has over 35 years of senior executive experience in the Financial Services industry. Her experience includes financial services consulting (she was an international partner at Andersen Consulting, now Accenture, for 14 years), retail and investment banking, insurance, public sector finance, and trade finance.
