Yuki Hasegawa is the General Manager of Tohoku General HQ of The Yomiuri Shimbun, a leading Japanese national daily newspaper.

Ms. Hasegawa joined The Yomiuri Shimbun as a reporter in 1989 and has mainly worked in the International News Department. Her first assignment as a correspondent was to Manila from 1997 to 2000 covering the Southeast Asia region on topics such as the Asian Financial Crisis, the independence movement in East Timor and Indonesian political turmoil. She was later based in Geneva (2003–2005) reporting on the United Nations, WHO, WTO and WIPO, while also covering Europe and the Middle East. Major areas and events she covered include post-war Iraq, the Orange Revolution in Ukraine and conflicts in Gaza. She was assigned twice to Cairo (2005–2008 and 2009-2012), in the latter period as Bureau Chief in charge of Arab countries and regions including North Africa. Her later years in Cairo saw the rise and spread of the popular uprising known as the Arab Spring, where she witnessed and covered the fall of regimes and confusion throughout the region. She became the Managing Editor of The Japan News, English language newspaper published by The Yomiuri Shimbun in 2017 where she has worked to expand the readership and business through digital development, after which she was assigned Deputy Managing Editor of The Yomiuri Shimbun. She is deeply interested in the changing environment of the media industry and the impact information technology has on media, and has been heavily involved in digital, artificial intelligence and other IT-related developments at The Yomiuri Shimbun including its website, Yomiuri Shimbun Online.

Ms. Hasegawa was also involved in Yomiuri’s TV news as director, presenter and reporter earlier in her career, and held positions such as regional bureau chief and Chief Manager for International Affairs handling foreign contacts and business development.

Ms. Hasegawa holds a Bachelor of Arts from International Christian University in Tokyo, and a Master of Arts from Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy at Tufts University.

Raised partially in both the United States and Italy, Ms. Hasegawa speaks Japanese, English, French, Italian and has basic knowledge of Arabic. Her passions include diving, trekking, traveling and cooking (especially bento).
