Geneva, Switzerland, 3 November 2014 – The Foundation Board of the World Economic Forum has elected Peter Maurer, President, International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), as a new member.
Professor Klaus Schwab, Founder and Executive Chairman of the World Economic Forum, stressed the importance of having the heads of international organizations on the Foundation Board. He said: “With his nomination, the board wishes to strengthen the humanitarian dimension of the Foundation and looks forward to fully integrate Peter Maurer’s valuable experience into its activities. The work of the ICRC is another example of the strong impact that can be made with multistakeholder collaboration, and we welcome the new voice and perspective that Maurer will bring.”
The Foundation Board is the guardian of the Forum’s mission and values through an exemplary standard of governance. The multistakeholder nature of the Foundation will be further enhanced, counting among the 25 members representatives from international organizations, civil societies, academia and business.
“Although the ICRC and the World Economic Forum have separate missions, they both are centred on collaboration across sectors and between various actors in order to improve the state of the world.
