Geneva, Switzerland, 1 May 2017 – For the first time, the World Economic Forum, together with the Government of Cambodia, invites students and the public to join an Open Forum session on The ASEAN Dream at the Institute of Technology of Cambodia (ITC) on Thursday 10 May from 14.30 to 16.00. This special session has been developed to give today’s students an opportunity to discuss what their future might look like.

Join a panel of inspirational entrepreneurs and thinkers:

  • Anthony F. Fernandes, Group Chief Executive Officer, AirAsia, Malaysia
  • Kao Kim Hourn, Minister attached to the Prime Minister of Cambodia
  • Wai Wai Nu, Founder and Director, Women Peace Network, Myanmar
  • William Tanuwijaya, Co-Founder and Chief Executive Officer, Tokopedia, Indonesia
  • Introduced by Philipp Rösler, Head of Regional and Government Engagement, Member of the Managing Board, World Economic Forum
  • Moderated by Jamil Edmond Anderlini, Asia Editor, Financial Times, Hong Kong SAR

More than half of the 630 million people in the ASEAN region are under 30 years of age. This promises years of powerful economic growth, and means the region’s youth are uniquely positioned to have a say in their future and how ASEAN grows. Their voice matters and they have the power to shape the technological, geopolitical and social agenda of the region. No longer locked into generational cycles of class, the ASEAN dream can be achieved by anyone.

To join The ASEAN Dream session in person, register here. Due to space constraints, the deadline to sign up is 3 May. The Open Forum will be held on Wednesday 10 May at 14.30-16.00 (doors open at 13.00) at the Institute of Technology of Cambodia (ITC), Russian Conf. Blvd, Phnom Penh, Cambodia. This session will also be webcast live at http://wef.ch/asean17.

Following the success of the Open Forum sessions at the World Economic Forum Annual Meeting in Davos-Klosters, Switzerland, the Forum is bringing its publicly accessible, open-debate format to a regional meeting for the first time. Since 2003, the Open Forum has brought together leaders from all walks of life: government officials, artists, civil society leaders, entrepreneurs and chief executive officers of multinational companies. The sessions are designed to engage a diverse global public and facilitate the sharing of a broad range of ideas, experiences and stories on pressing and controversial issues.

The World Economic Forum on ASEAN will take place in Phnom Penh on 10-12 May 2017 under the theme Youth, Technology and Growth: Securing ASEAN’s Digital and Demographic Dividends. It is Forum’s 26th meeting in the region, and will focus on how ASEAN can harness the potential of its young demographic, as well as the transformative impact of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, to foster inclusive economic growth.
