Johannesburg, South Africa, 15 June 2018 – The South African government’s reform agenda will be the focus of a roundtable convened by the World Economic Forum in Johannesburg, South Africa, on Thursday 28 June 2018.
Business leaders from across the world will join South African President Cyril Ramaphosa and senior government ministers to:
- Guide reforms to restore investor and consumer confidence locally and internationally
- Shape policies that drive inclusive growth in the Fourth Industrial Revolution
- Lead public-private partnerships for high-impact social innovations and outcomes
- Highlight stories of successful industry transformation in South Africa and, more broadly, in Africa
- Gain insights into the political and economic outlook locally and regionally
South Africa is the most industrialized country in sub-Saharan Africa and boasts one of the region’s most innovative economies. But challenges persist, including low growth, high inequality and unemployment as well as rising poverty rates.
The recent election of Cyril Ramaphosa as president marks a potential new dawn for the country. Under his leadership, the new government intends to implement reforms to restore economic growth, rebuild trust and integrity in society, and transform the economy by creating opportunities for all.
The roundtable will lay a foundation for South Africa’s Investment Conference later this year, and design a roadmap to build up to the next World Economic Forum on Africa in South Africa in June 2019.
“The global economy is about to go through seismic change as a result of the Fourth Industrial Revolution. South Africa’s leaders from government and business have a window of opportunity to design a better future for the country based on fairness and sustainability. They must take advantage of this, and build partnerships and collaboration with partners around the globe to ensure prosperity in the future,” said Elsie Kanza, Head of Regional Strategies - Africa, and Member of the Executive Committee at the World Economic Forum.
