New York, USA, 15 September 2022 – In the new global context of socio-economic systemic shocks, recommitting to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) has never been more crucial.

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said on Wednesday, 14 September, that next week's General Debate of the General Assembly must be about hope. Previously, he stated that the General Debate will address the urgent issues with concrete recommendations and a call to action.

The Sustainable Development Impact Meetings, held in parallel with the UN General Assembly, aim to answer that call. This year’s meetings will bring together business leaders, policy-makers and heads of civil society organizations to participate, in person, in a series of carefully curated, impact-driven discussions in New York.

These stakeholders will use the meetings to advance their work and make concrete progress on the SDGs, as well as build momentum towards key milestones in the coming months including COP27 and the World Economic Forum Annual Meeting 2023 in January.

“The need for global cooperation is more urgent than ever. The twin triggers of the COVID-19 pandemic and the war in Ukraine make collective action imperative to overcome interconnected challenges and enact sustainable solutions. Our aim at the meetings is to galvanize global leaders to progress on the SDGs,” said Mirek Dusek, Managing Director, World Economic Forum.

In line with the goal of the meetings, the event will be carbon-neutral and have sustainable catering with seasonally driven menus. All emissions are calculated and offset (including 100% of the participants and staff flights). The meeting venue is LEED Platinum certified.
