Historic Picture of the Day

The digital team at the Forum has been sorting through our photo archives and has discovered some historic gems. Over the coming weeks we will share with you rarely seen black & white pictures from the Forum’s Annual Meetings of the 70s, 80s and 90s.

Every day we will release a ‘Historic Picture of the Day’ illustrating the achievements of the World Economic Forum over the past four decades. You will be able to find all these pictures in a historic picture gallery on Flickr.

Davos Congress Centre - World Economic Forum Annual Meeting 1987Highlights include the Davos Declaration in 1988 which averted open conflict between Turkey and Greece, the rapprochement between East and West Germany in 1990 which paved the way for German reunification that same year and the South African reconciliation with the first joint international appearance of F.W. de Klerk and Nelson Mandela in 1992.

As pictures from the first meetings during the seventies remain rare we have copied newspaper images of the time.

We are starting the series with a view of the Davos Congress Centre (Kongresshaus) in 1987, the year the European Management Symposium changed its name to World Economic Forum.
