The new class of Technology Pioneers 2012 were officially announced almost two weeks ago and the media attention surrounding the launch has been amazing. This year, we will be welcoming the newly selected group at the Annual Meeting of the New Champions 2011, also known as the “Summer Davos”, taking place in Dalian, People’s Republic of China, from 14-16 September. This event is the World Economic Forum’s second largest Meeting after the World Economic Forum Annual Meeting in Davos-Klosters, Switzerland, and is strategically positioned to address issues on science, technology, innovation and sustainability.

Leaders from all over the world will come together to tackle the issue of mastering quality growth – quality being the operative word – and this is where the Technology Pioneers will be able to contribute to the global agenda.

At the Annual Meeting of the New Champions 2011, the Technology Pioneers Team will host a series of technology-focused private sessions for the community, including:

 -       Welcome Reception and Dinner: An event co-hosted with the Forum’s ITTC Industry team looking at the cross-cutting nature of ICT and its applications across all industry sectors

-       The Dynamic Duo: A collaborative workshop held in partnership with the Social Entrepreneurs community identifying what it takes to be a serial entrepreneur

-       A Conversation with Kai-Fu Lee: A candid, off-the-record discussion with Kai-Fu Lee, a leading Chinese venture capitalist

-       Meeting with Minister Wan Gang: The Technology Pioneers will have the opportunity to meet with the Minister of Science and Technology of China; he will share insights and his vision for the future

The Technology Pioneers will also play a pivotal role as panellists and discussion leaders in some of the official sessions taking place during the three day meeting, including sessions on solar energy, social inclusion, water management, hyperconnectivity, crisis communication and many others, not to mention in the closing plenary on Friday afternoon.

On behalf of the team, we wish everyone a successful Annual Meeting of the New Champions!
