Dropbox connects the cloud to everyday life
Anyone who has lugged a heavy laptop home on a daily basis can appreciate the advantage of temporarily storing a day’s work on a cloud server for easy retrieval at home. Dropbox is a pioneer in the business. It not only offers easy storage of files, programs, photographs, personal notes and a wide range of other material but it also provides a common space for colleagues to share material that is being developed on a collaborative project. Its ability to operate on nearly every operating system platform makes it one of the easiest methods today for transferring material from one computer to another, or from a desktop to a cell phone. To minimize connection time on the Web, Dropbox synchronizes only those aspects of an ongoing job that have actually changed and guarantees that every time you access your information, you are looking at the latest version regardless of which computer you are using or where you happen to be. In a sense, Dropbox can substitute as a WiFi-connected hard drive that is instantly on and geographically omnipresent. In pioneering on the cloud, credible security is even more important than the ability to synchronize, and Dropbox prides itself on guaranteeing Internet privacy.
Dropbox now counts some 25 million loyal customers, and its large user base, which is becoming increasingly comfortable with the cloud, is likely to be a major asset in the future as the company continues to push for consumer use of cloud technology.
