Open Forum 2012, your ticket to Davos
Since its launch in 2003, the Open Forum has created a bridge between the World Economic Forum Annual Meeting and the general public. While the Annual Meeting is by invitation only, the Open Forum is just that, open, to anyone and everyone who wants to participate in the discussion on how to improve the state of the world.
Over the years, panellists such as Shimon Peres, Christine Lagarde and Ban Ki Moon have tackled subjects ranging from children’s rights to water issues. This year again, the Open Forum addresses the many pressing issues facing our society today. The continuing global crisis will be the top priority not only at the Annual Meeting, but at the Open Forum as well.
Speakers at the Open Forum will address issues such as responsible leadership in times of crisis, and how do we motivate decision-makers and policy-makers to lead instead of follow the consensus?
Other issues on the agenda include what would happen if we lost the use of satellites for a day, remodelling capitalism and precious water, its scarcity and stress. Water is crucial and tightly connected to food production, energy, climate change, economic growth and security issues. Sizable parts of the world already lack an adequate water supply, while population growth and improved living standards are expected to exacerbate the problem of water shortage.
The Open Forum takes place at the Schweizerische Alpine Mittelschule, Guggerbachstrasse 2, 7270 Davos Platz. Sessions are open to the public with no registration required. However, as seating capacity is limited, participation is on a first-come, first-served basis.
