“The river used to be a dignified space… The villagers were on the river, it was the main communication line. It has become the backside of the city.”

Five-hundred tonnes of rubbish are dumped into the Ciliwung river in Jakarta every day, and in some places it is six to eight metres deep with plastics. In this video, Christophe Girot, a landscape architect from ETH Zurich, says investment is needed to turn neglected tropical rivers into green corridors for future cities.
