In this World Economic Forum video, Professor Charles Godfray, a population biologist at the University of Oxford, asks how we can create a sustainable food system that can feed a future population of 9 billion people.
“Throughout human history, the single thing that is most likely to have caused social disruption … has been a shortage of food. Food riots were one of the causes of the Arab Spring and brought down a government in Madagascar. We’re beginning to get warnings that the food system is not going to be able to deliver … and food isn’t like any other commodity. If we don’t have food, we die.”
