How competitive are the BRICS?

Leaders of the BRICS nations — Russia. Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa now account for a fifth of global economic output and are meeting for a summit this week in Ufa.

They may make a powerful club but just how do the BRICS nations fare on their own?

According to the World Economic Forum’s Global Competitiveness Report, China leads the BRICS coming in at 28th most competitive nation in the world. Russia, South Africa and Brazil are all 50-somethings, while India lags the pack at  71st.
