The 2015/16 QS World University Rankings have been released, with the National University of Singapore emerging as Asia’s leading institution, with a score of 94.2 out of 100.

The ranking analyses the performance of more than 800 of the world’s universities based on six key performance indicators – academic reputation, employer reputation, student-to-faculty ratio, citations per faculty, international faculty ratio and international student ratio.

Another of Singapore’s universities, Nanyang Technological University, follows in second place – up from sixth the previous year. The top 3 is completed by the Australian National University, with a score of 91.0.

The changes in position compared to the 2014/15 rankings are largely caused by a change to the way scores are calculated, to take into account the different levels of citations in various faculty area. QS says this has made the ranking more “balanced”.

Asia’s economic centres dominate the list, with institutions from Hong Kong, China, Japan and Singapore all featuring.
